Important: Our services are designed for parents and legal guardians to register children for educational programs. Children should not register themselves, create accounts, make payments, or submit personal information without parent or legal guardian involvement.

1. Introduction

Florida Star Academy respects the privacy and safety of children. This Children’s Privacy Notice explains how we collect, use, protect, and manage information related to children who participate in our educational programs.

This Notice applies to children under the age of 13 and is intended to comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, known as COPPA.

Our services are designed for parents and legal guardians to register children for educational programs. Children should not register themselves, create accounts, make payments, or submit personal information without parent or legal guardian involvement.

2. Our Services Are Directed to Parents

Florida Star Academy provides English speaking practice, communication development, public speaking practice, storytelling, confidence-building activities, and related educational programs for children.

Although children participate in our classes and learning activities, registration, payment, consent, communication, and account management must be completed by a parent or legal guardian.

3. Information We May Collect About Children

With parent or legal guardian consent, we may collect limited information about a child, such as:

child’s first name and last name;
child’s age or age range;
child’s English language level;
child’s communication goals;
child’s learning preferences;
parent-provided information about the child’s confidence, comfort level, or participation needs;
class attendance and scheduling information;
teacher notes related to educational progress;
limited session information needed to provide and improve our services.

We do not knowingly collect more information from children than is reasonably necessary to provide our educational services.

4. Information We Collect From Parents or Legal Guardians

We may collect information from parents or legal guardians, including:

parent or guardian name;
email address;
phone number;
billing information;
payment confirmation information;
child registration details;
program preferences;
communications with Florida Star Academy.

Payments may be processed by third-party payment providers. Florida Star Academy does not intentionally store full credit card numbers on its own systems.

5. How We Use Child Information

We may use child information to:

register the child for a program;
place the child in an appropriate class or learning pathway;
provide English speaking practice and communication activities;
personalize educational support;
communicate with the parent or legal guardian;
schedule, manage, and deliver classes;
monitor attendance and progress;
support child safety;
improve our educational programs;
comply with legal obligations.

We do not use child information for behavioral advertising.

Before collecting personal information from a child under 13, we require consent from a parent or legal guardian.

Consent may be obtained through registration forms, signed consent forms, payment authorization, email confirmation, or another reasonable verification method.

By registering a child for our program, the parent or legal guardian confirms that they understand and agree to our collection and use of the child’s information as described in this Notice.

7. Parent Rights

Parents and legal guardians have the right to:

review the personal information we have collected about their child;
request correction of inaccurate information;
request deletion of their child’s personal information;
withdraw consent for future collection or use of their child’s information;
ask questions about our privacy practices.

We do not sell children’s personal information.

We may share limited child information only when necessary with:

teachers, tutors, Buddies, mentors, contractors, or staff who help provide the educational program;
technology providers used to deliver classes, scheduling, communication, or secure data storage;
payment processors, where relevant to parent billing;
legal, safety, or compliance advisors if required;
authorities, if legally required or necessary to protect a child’s safety.

All adults working with children are expected to follow Florida Star Academy’s child safety standards and confidentiality obligations.

9. No Sale of Children’s Data

Florida Star Academy does not sell children’s personal information.

We do not knowingly use children’s personal information for targeted behavioral advertising.

10. Online Classes and Session Information

Some classes may take place online through approved video conferencing or learning platforms.

Depending on the program, sessions may be monitored or recorded for safety, training, quality assurance, or educational review, but only where permitted by law and with appropriate parent or legal guardian consent.

Florida Star Academy does not permit unauthorized private communication between staff, teachers, tutors, Buddies, mentors, contractors, or volunteers and children.

Program communication should take place through approved channels and, where appropriate, with parent or legal guardian involvement.

Teachers, tutors, Buddies, and staff may not contact children through personal phone numbers, private email accounts, social media, messaging apps, or other unauthorized channels.

12. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information.

However, no website, online platform, or electronic storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Parents should contact us immediately if they believe their child’s information may have been misused or exposed.

13. Data Retention

We retain child information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide our services, maintain records, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, support safety, and improve our programs.

Parents may request deletion of their child’s personal information, subject to legal, safety, accounting, or operational retention requirements.

We may use trusted third-party platforms for scheduling, online classes, payments, forms, communication, analytics, or secure storage.

These providers may process information on our behalf. We seek to use providers that support appropriate privacy and security standards.
